Helena Österlund receives The First Publication Prize of Borås Tidning

This year’s first publication prize from the newspaper Borås Tidning, has been awarded to poet Helena Österlund for her collection of poetry entitled: Ordet och Färgerna (The Word and the Colors). The prize sum is SEK 100,000. Helena Österlund was born in 1978 and lives in Stockholm. She was the only poet among the five nominees.

The other nominees, with titles and publishing houses, were:

  • Eli Levén, Du är rötterna som sover vid mina fötter och håller jorden på plats (You are the Roots Asleep at my Feet and Holding the Earth in Place), Norstedts.
  • Anna Ringberg, Boys, Ordfront.
  • Stephan Mendel-Enk, Tre apor (Three Apes), Atlas
  • Elin Ruuth, Fara vill, (Depart I Will), Albert Bonnier.

The First Publication Prize of Borås Tidning was established in 2001 and is awarded in collaboration with Borås University College to a Swedish writer of prose or poetry whose work has been published for the first time. The aim of the prize is to support a budding author whose work the jury considers to have the potential of being exciting and significant.
