Mikael Engström nominated for the Deutscher Jugendliteraturpreis 2010

Mikael Engström’s Isdraken (The Ice Dragon) has been nominated for the Deutscher Jugendliteraturpreis 2010.

From the jury’s citation:
“Mik is a survivor. In his eleven-year-old spindly boy’s body there is an incredible strength which nevertheless is hardly sufficient to cope with an alcoholic father, a brother who lets him down, bullying and difficult foster families. In a concise but charged language, the reader gets to follow Mik fighting his unequal battle, reaching what looks like a new life”.
