Nordic Authors Take Paris by Storm

More Swedish and Nordic authors than ever before have been invited to attend the Paris book fair, Salon du Livre. Considered the most important annual literary event in France, it takes place this year between 18 and 21 March. Under the heading Les Lettres Nordiques, 40 Nordic authors will participate in debates and seminars, the largest number ever.

The Swedish authors involved include Per Olof Enquist, Sara Stridsberg, Carl-Johan Vallgren, Annika Thor, Jonas Hassen Khemiri, Mara Lee, Anne Swärd, Ulf Nilsson, Johanna Thydell and Ingrid Olsson, some of whom will be being introduced to French readers for the very first time.

Les Lettres Nordiques is being arranged by Kulturrådet, the Swedish Arts Council and its equivalents in the other Nordic countries:  Kunststyrelsen in Denmark, NORLA in Norway, The Icelandic Literature Fund, FILI in Finland and the French Centre National du Livre. Financial support has been provided by the Nordic Council of Ministers.

On 17 March, in collaboration with the Swedish Institute in Paris, there will be a seminar for translators of Nordic literature into French. A large exhibition of Nordic books in their original languages and in translation into French will be on display.
