Sweden Country of Honour at the Belgrade Book Fair

Sweden is the country of honour at the 2010 Belgrade book fair, taking place from October 25 to October 31. Twenty Swedish writers will be attending the book fair and hundreds of books of contemporary Swedish literature published in the past six years will be presented within the project Voices from Sweden.

Children’s literature will be paid special attention at the book fair. Åsa Lind will be holding the inaugural speech together with Serbian writer Laslo Vegel. Åsa Lind is well-known for her books about the Sandwoolf which are translated into ten languages including Serbian. Apart from Åsa Lind following authors will be attending the book fair: Ulf Stark, Zulmir Becevic, Sven Nordqvist, Pernilla Stalfelt, Martin Widmark, Helena Willis, Maria Sveland, Gellert Tamas, Ulrika Knutsson, Ola Larsmo, Steve Sem-Sandberg, Helena Henschen and Ulf Peter Hallberg. The writers will present their books and take part in public dialogues with colleagues from Serbia about current topics connected to contemporary society issues in a wide perspective.

The project “Voices from Sweden” will include many Serbian partners. During the week of the Book fair many other events related to Swedish culture will take place throughout the city. The Belgrade Jazz Festival will be opened by the internationally famous Swedish jazz singer Rigmor Gustafsson, and at the closing night, one of the biggest names of Swedish club jazz scene will perform - Magnus Lindgren.

Furthermore, the project “Voices of Sweden” also includes activities organised together with the Group of Scandinavian Languages and Literatures at the Faculty of Philology of the Belgrade University, the Belgrade City Library, Cultural Center REX, "Dusko Radovic" Little Theatre, Cultural Center GRAD and Center for Cultural Decontamination.
