Nordic translator seminar in Norwich

On the 4th and the 5th of May twenty or so translators from all the Nordic languages into English met at the Writers’ Centre Norwich, England, for a seminar arranged by the centre in collaboration with the Swedish Arts Council, Danish Arts Foundation, NORLA and FILI.

The focus of the translation seminar was children’s literature but there was also space for a bit of Nordic noir and literary fiction. Two intense days filled with workshops, talks and panel discussions.

For example, the Nordic translators listened to the literature researcher B J Epstein talk about taboo subjects in children’s fiction, and heard author and translator Daniel Hahn discuss challenges in translating foreign children’s literature.

During the second day there was also a very interesting panel discussion with representatives from a number of British publishers of Nordic literature.
