High quality in upcoming Swedish books in translation

The first application round of grants for Nordic and Non-Nordic translation 2022 has now closed.

For this round we received 154 applications of which 125 were accepted. The quality of the planned projects was, according to the assessment of the grants committee, exceptionally high, which explains the unusually high percentage of awarded grants.

The total amount awarded to Swedish books to be translated rose to 2,89 million SEK in this round. The most common target languages were French and Italian (10 projects each), then Arabic and Danish (8 projects each), followed by Czech, Dutch, Polish and Norwegian (7 projects each).

As in previous rounds, the variety of genres and authors continues to be delightfully rich. The writers that this time had the most applications were Jens Liljestrand, Niklas Natt och Dag, Agneta Pleijel and Elin Cullhed.
