New Swedish Books
Please enjoy the Spring issue of New Swedish Books! With the help of skilful literary critics we introduce a selection of recently published books. We have also asked a few highly experienced translators to present works that they love dearly and would like to translate, or that they have already translated.
Diversity is a key word in this issue. We are not only highlighting different literary genres, but also publish a report from a seminar about diversity in contemporary Swedish writing, arranged by SELTA, The Swedish-English Literary Translators’ Association. And as we at Swedish Literature Exchange this year focus on books for young readers, we also asked Kristina Hoas to elaborate on recent trends in picture books. Jonas Thente, on the other hand, presents his thoughts on current topics in Swedish publishing, and in the books themselves and resumes: “While female writers are happy to write about sex – as rage, power play, existential provocation or life crisis – male writers are retreating to a cerebral, almost celibate murmur.” Do you wish to agree or oppose this statement? Anyway; we hope that New Swedish Books opens up doors to new insights and inspiration!
