Picturebook trip to Japan
One week in November we went to Tokyo with a delegation of Swedish children’s book publishers to learn about the Japanese book market, visit Japanese colleagues and exchange ideas.
At the Tokyo Art Book Fair we presented a wide selection of Swedish picture books to the Japanese audience at the Kids’ reading room, and in arrangement by the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award, there was a panel talk between the Swedish laureate Eva Lindström and the Japanese laureate Ryoji Aray.
The Swedish Embassy in Tokyo arranged a visiting program at Japanese publishing houses, bookstores and also arranged a panel talk at the Tokyo Arts University Geidai, where Eva Lindström and Jöns Melllgren from Konstfack (Stockholm University of Arts and Crafts) talked about Eva’s work, about picture book illustration, and art education in Sweden.
