Translator workshops, mentorships and book talks in the latest allocation rounds

The fourth distribution round of grants for translators, as well as the grant for international promotion of Swedish literature and drama for 2025, has been decided.

Ten projects have been awarded grants for international promotion. Three of these projects are:

Translators mine 9: A meeting place for literary translators

Translators from Swedish into German, Danish, French, Spanish, Ukrainian, Persian and Hungarian are invited to a translator workshop during a weekend in May at Hästbäcks gård in Västmanland County. The workshop will be led by author Lina Wolff and moderated by translator Elena Balzamo.

Swedish Literature in a Nordic Presentation at the Leipzig Book Fair

In 2026, the Swedish and Nordic embassies in Berlin will celebrate 20 years at the Leipzig Book Fair by giving extra attention to Nordic literature and the Nordic stand. Around 70 events will be organised, and the Swedish Embassy has received our funding to invite the Swedish authors Oskar Kroon, Lisa Ridzén, Mattias Timander, Malin Thunberg Schunke, and Andrev Walden to participate in talks and presentations of their latest books.

Swedish-English Literary Translators' Association (SELTA)

SELTA will formalise a funding arrangement for translators who wish to attend the London Book Fair. The London Book Fair is a valuable meeting place for both emerging and experienced translators. The translators will attend individually but will be encouraged to set up meetings with agents, publishers, and other stakeholders.

Five grants have been allocated for translators' travel, mentorship and sample translations. Three of these projects are:

The translator Miho Hellén-Halme, who translates from Swedish into Japanese, has been awarded a grant for a mentorship with mentee Hitomi Sekihara.

French translator Gabrielle Rozsaffy has been awarded a grant for travel to Stockholm to research Swedish theatre plays.

The translator Lida Starodubtseva has been awarded a grant for a Russian sample translation of Hanna Nordenhök’s novel Underlandet.
