Strong interest in translation grants at the start of the year

The first round of translation grants for Nordic and non-Nordic languages has now concluded. We were pleased to receive an impressively high number of applications for non-Nordic languages. In total, we received a total of 183 applications across all languages, and funding was awarded to 103 translation projects.

Non-Nordic languages

In this round, grants have been awarded for translations into 31 languages, with Italian being the most frequently requested target language.

We are pleased to support four poetry translations:

  • Regnbågen by Lennart Sjögren will be translated into Norwegian by Casper André Lugg and be published by Bonnier Norsk Forlag. The same title will also be translated into German by Margitt Lehbert and be published by Edition Rugerup.
  • Den sista fjärilen by Nima Jasim Hasan Mohamed will be translated into Icelandic by Aðalsteinn Asberg Sigurðsson and be published by Dimma.
  • A poetry collection of Dagarnas rad/ Bebodda Världar/ Den andra världen/ Sken/Den första snön/ 21 dikter by Lars Gustad Andersson will be translated into Spanish by Ángela Ines Garcia Castrillon and be published by Granises, Servicios Editoriales y de Comunicación (La Otra).

We would like to highlight that grants may be requested for translation costs and/or production costs up to SEK 20 000. Grants for production are meant for four-colour illustrated books or for books that are particularly costly to publish in translation for other reasons, such as the production costs of poetry, comics and graphic novels.

Nordic languages

In this round, we approved eight applications. Two examples of supported translations:

  • Sanningsberget (fiction) by Therese Bohman will be translated into Danish by Juliane Wammen and published by Turbine.
  • Himlabrand (young adults’ fiction) by Moa Backe Åstot will be translated into Norwegian by Nina Aspen and published by Cappelen Damm AS.
